When the iPhone X was launched last year, many seemed to criticize the design of the device no thanks to the notch in its display. However there were also many who said that eventually users would learn to ignore it. Unfortunately due to the technology required for the front portion of the phone, the notch is something that not just Apple, but other Android OEMs cannot avoid.

However the good news for those who hate the notch is that come 2019, the notch could be reduced further. This is according to a tweet by Benjamin Geskin who has in the past accurately leaked Apple-related information. According to his tweet, he claims that 2019’s iPhones will feature a smaller notch, as you can see in the renders above.

Geskin also claims that 2019’s iPhones will continue to feature the same display sizes as this year’s models, meaning that we can still look forward to a 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch display, but the notch will be smaller which should afford users more screen real estate. It is admittedly rather early to start speculating about next year’s iPhones, especially when this year’s models have yet to be released.

In any case for those who detest the notch design, unfortunately the notch seems to be here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future, but hopefully its smaller presence will be of comfort to some.
