Amazon has launched an updated model of the Kindle Paperwhite today and it gets an improvement that many customers may have been waiting for. The Kindle Paperwhite is finally waterproof. It’s also thinner than its predecessor so the new model will certainly entice customers with these two core changes. This has been done without raising the price point of the device.

Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite has an IP rating. It can be submerged in water up to two meters deep for up to an hour. While you probably won’t be using it underwater for that amount of time, this does mean that you have nothing to worry about should your Kindle Paperwhite ever fall in the pool.

Some subtle design changes have been made as well. The front of the device is now flush instead of the raised bezels found on older models. This makes the device feel more premium. The LEDs have been increased to five to allow for more uniform front lighting.

It can be purchased with up to 32GB of storage and there’s Bluetooth support as well. Some software tweaks have been made as well to improve the overall user experience. Amazon is taking pre-orders for the new Kindle Paperwhite starting today. It will ship November 9th. Prices start at $130.
