Pixel 3 In Japan To Get Exclusive Cases With AR Support

Phone cases are pretty straightforward and for the most part they’re meant to protect our phones from getting scratched, and in many cases they’re also used to show off a bit of our own personality based on the style of the case and design that we’ve chosen. However in Japan, Google is trying to make a case more than just a case.

As you might have heard, Google has recently announced the Pixel 3 and over in Japan, the company has unveiled a bunch of new designer cases that are exclusive to the country. According to Google, each of these cases were designed by a different artist who is “leading the Tokyo culture scene”. Each design is very different from the other and there will definitely be something for everyone.

However it seems that these cases are more than just cases, and that each case will come with its own augmented reality experience. Based on the translation, apparently these cases will allow users to “experience the expression method drawn on the case,” which we can only assume could be some kind of behind-the-scenes look at how these cases were designed.

No word on whether or not Google is planning similar launches for other parts of the world with other local artists and designers, but if you’re in Japan or heading to Japan, these cases could be worth checking out.
