While Apple’s computers have been designed to be very sleek and elegant, the problem with such a design is that for the most part, it makes Apple’s computers very difficult to upgrade. To be fair benchmarks have proven that Apple’s higher-end rigs are more than capable of holding their own when it comes to heavy work, but what if you needed that extra oomph?

That’s where external GPUs come in handy, and if you think you could benefit from such a setup, then you might be pleased to learn that Blackmagic’s eGPU Pro is now available for purchase. The availability of the device had been delayed to December and it looks like they are cutting it pretty close in terms of availability.

The eGPU Pro is priced at  $1,199 and is available via Apple’s website where it is estimated to begin shipping out in the next 3-4 weeks. It features a Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics processor with 8GB of HBM2 memory, a couple of Thunderbolt 3 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI 2.0 port, and a DisplayPort 1.4 port.

Prior to this Apple only had the regular eGPU in stock which used the AMD Radeon Pro 580, but if you wanted to use AMD’s Vega GPUs, then you’ll have to get the Pro version.
