Over 70 Million Nokia Phones Have Been Sold Since 2017

HMD Global is the company that brought Nokia smartphones back to life. It acquired the rights for the brand a couple of years ago and released the first Nokia-branded smartphone, the Nokia 6, early last year. It has launched several models since then and the company has now revealed that it has so far sold 70 million Nokia phones.

That’s an impressive feat for the company that had little more than Nokia’s stellar brand recognition to go on. Countless reviews of Nokia-branded smartphones have heaped praise on HMD for getting it right in a market where many others are still struggling.

HMD Global’s new German marketing chief Britta Gerbracht revealed in a press conference this week that the company has sold over 70 million Nokia-branded phones since the first one came out last year. The figure includes both feature and smartphones. It was further revealed that the majority of the customers who purchased the devices were male, over 35 years old, and had previously bought Nokia smartphones before HMD Global took over the brand.

The company’s cheaper devices have performed considerably well in the market with the Nokia 6.1 being its best-selling device in this period. The flagship models like the Nokia 8 Sirocco haven’t done as well as it might have hoped. HMD Global will be launching a new flagship smartphone in the future but that won’t happen before the end of this year.
