The story of Mortal Kombat, at least its premise, started out simple enough. However over the years, the lore behind the game was expanded upon where we got a lot more backstory than we did when the game first started. Granted players probably don’t really play the game for the story, bu it’s nice to know it’s there anyway.

Last year NetherRealm took the wraps off Mortal Kombat 11 via a trailer that showed characters fighting each other, but if you are interested in what the story is behind the upcoming game, a new story prologue trailer has since been released. It shows Raiden torturing Shinnok, which is rather uncharacteristic of him, before beheading him.

It also introduces us to a new character, Kronika, who according to the trailer’s description is known as The Keeper of Time. “Raiden has upset the balance of history with the death of Shinnok. Tired of Earthrealm’s defiance, Kronika, The Keeper of Time will bring order to the universe through any means necessary.”

The game is expected to bring back several fan favorites, include Baraka and Skarlet, as well as the classic roster which includes Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, Sonya Blade, and so on. There will also be the introduction of a new character Geras who will debut alongside Kronika. Mortal Kombat 11 is currently slated for a release on the 23rd of April, 2019 where it will be playable on the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
