We are in the year of 2019 which means that if you follow the Chinese Zodiac, it is also the year of the pig. However even if you don’t necessarily follow the Chinese Zodiac or celebrate the Lunar New Year, not to worry because Blizzard plans on celebrating it anyway in Overwatch where the game’s Lunar New Year event will be kicking off next week.

For those unfamiliar, Blizzard typically hosts several festive events a year in Overwatch. We’ve seen the game celebrate the Lunar New Year, Christmas, and Halloween, just to name a few. This is a good chance for gamers to try out new game modes that are typically introduced in such events, as well as collect special edition skins that are limited to these events.

Also sometimes Blizzard makes the skins from the previous event available for purchase at a lower cost for those who want to collect as many skins as possible. Blizzard’s celebration of the festive holidays dates back to the World of Warcraft where the game celebrates Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Lunar New Year, Halloween, as well as hosting their own festive events created specifically for the game.

It is unclear what goodies we can expect from the Overwatch 2019 Lunar New Year event, but we’ll keep an eye out for the details.
