Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell has said that the third iteration in the Project Cars series is currently in “very early pre-production.” He made some comments on the GTPlanet forums to provide some details about the direction that the new game will be taking compared to the earlier Project Cars titles.

“We’re still at the design on paper stage… This is very early pre-production,” he wrote, adding that the game is going to be more focused and “more fun.” He acknowledged that the team went to great lengths with variants in Project Cars 2 and that caused a lot of balancing issues.

They have learned a lesson there and while there’s no intention of reducing content, the team knows what it needs to fix and what “sub-optimal” design decisions to avoid. “The key focus though is on fun and not biting off more than we can properly chew and digest,” he said.

The predecessor, Project Cars 2, was released in September 2017. Fans of the franchise are no doubt waiting for a new iteration. It may be some time before it’s ready, though, given that it’s said to be in early pre-production at this point in time. Slightly Mad Studios has not yet committed to a time frame for the game’s launch.
