For most of us, high-end sports cars are usually something we admire from afar and imagine what it would be like to own one of them. In fact for the most part, $1 million for a high-end sports car puts it well out of the reach of many, but Bugatti is certainly pushing that envelope with a $19 million car.

The company has recently taken the wraps off their latest model, the one-of-a-kind La Voiture Noire that is priced at $19 million. Many are probably balking at that price, but according to Bugatti, they have already managed to sell the car and it was to the very first person who they offered the car to (they did not say who bought it).

According to The Verge who spoke to Bugatti design director Achim Anscheidt, this sale doesn’t really come as a surprise as the company has “a customer base that is used to configuring their yachts and their airplanes themselves”. Anscheidt also likens the company’s cars to the art market, except that it is “not so outrageous”. To top it off, this particular model has yet to be built as the company has yet to figure out how to build it, and that they will need at least 2.5 years.

Also unlike most cars that depreciate in value the moment they are driven, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is expected to have the opposite effect, where it is expected to appreciate over time like fine art.
