How Activision’s Call of Duty franchise works is that every year, there will be a new title. However, every title will be developed by a different developer. So far we’ve seen studios like Treyarch, Sledgehammer, and Infinity Ward share the development of various Call of Duty titles in the past.

2019’s title is expected to be developed by Infinity Ward, which means that that 2020’s title should be developed by Sledgehammer. However, a report from Kotaku has revealed that will not be the case and that Treyarch is expected to step in. The report claimed that Activision had initially planned to have Raven and Sledgehammer work on 2020’s Call of Duty title, but for whatever reason, that task has since fallen onto Treyarch.

Raven and Sledgehammer are said to still be working on the game, except that it will now be in a support capacity instead of taking the lead. This means that 2020 could see the launch of Black Ops 5, in which its predecessor was just launched last year. This means that if you like the Black Ops series of games, then 2020 could be a year to look forward to.

That being said, we might be getting ahead of ourselves. After all, this year’s Call of Duty game has yet to be officially announced, although last we heard, it is expected to take place by the end of June which means that an unveiling at E3 2019 next month seems quite probable.
