Visiting new countries can be fun, but what’s not so fun is the process of traveling. This is because unless you can afford to fly business or first class, or a private jet, chances are most of us will fly in economy and long journeys are basically hell. However, a company by the name of Hermeus is hoping to help cut your travel time significantly.

The company has recently received financial backing from seed funders and private investors which they will be using to develop a hypersonic jet. This jet, said to be capable of traveling five times the speed of sound, will be able to fly passengers from New York to London (and vice versa) in as little time as 90 minutes.

At the moment, it takes about 7 hours to fly from New York to London, which means that this new travel time will be about 5 times faster. According to AJ Piplica, Hermeus’ co-founder and CEO, “We’ve set out on a journey to revolutionize the global transportation infrastructure, bringing it from the equivalent of dial-up into the broadband era, by radically increasing the speed of travel over long distances.”

That being said, it might be a while before we see these planes become mainstream. Piplica told CNN that a passenger aircraft would probably take a decade to develop, so don’t expect to take a ride in them anytime soon.
