You may have already heard about the plant-based Impossible Burger by now. Developed by Impossible Foods, this hamburger alternative is already part of Burger King’s Impossible Whopper. The company is now marketing another meat-less product. It’s a sausage which will be first sold by the Little Caesars pizza chain.

Little Caesars will be the first restaurant to sell Impossible Foods’ meat-less sausage. It will be available as a topping on the $12 Impossible Supreme Pizza. The chain is making this topping available today in 58 restaurants in Yakima, WA, Albuquerque, NM, Ft. Myers, FL and Naples, FL.

The meat-free sausage itself is developed with many of the same ingredients that were used for the burger. It uses the heme from soy plants to impart that meat flavor. The potato protein has been removed, though, to achieve a springy texture for the sausage.

It depends on the success of this pilot program if the meat-free sausage is to be made available to more Little Caesars locations across the country by the end of this year. Given that Burger King’s pilot for the meat-free burger did well, we may see a similar response from the market for this product. Burger King has confirmed that the Impossible Whopper will be available nationwide by the end of 2019.
