If you were hoping to get some multiplayer action going with Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2, you might be disappointed to learn that the game will not be shipping with multiplayer mode. This has been confirmed in an interview that Naughty Dog Lead Game Designer Emilia Schatz did with USGamer.

According to Schatz, “We’re focusing on a single-player experience, so we’re just making a single-player game for this.” When they reached out to Sony for clarification, a representative confirmed that what Schatz said was correct, and that The Last of Us 2 will indeed be a single-player game.

Why is this a big deal? This is a big deal because back in E3 2018, the game’s directors confirmed to a couple of media outlets that multiplayer mode will indeed be making a comeback. However, it is possible that from then until now, decisions and changes were made that led to the multiplayer feature being dropped.

This is unfortunate for gamers who enjoyed the Factions multiplayer mode in the first game, but then again, The Last of Us has been mostly about its storyline, so maybe this isn’t as big a loss as we think. The Last of Us 2 has recently been confirmed for a release on the 21st of February, 2020.
