Back in November last year, Valve made a surprise announcement in the form of a new Half-Life game called Alyx. This would be a VR exclusive game and would also be the latest installment in the Half-Life franchise in a very, very long time. Perhaps to help build the hype leading up to its launch, Valve has since made every Half-Life game free to play on Steam.

This means that if you’ve never ever played Half-Life and you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, you will be able to find out for yourself by playing some of the older titles. The free games will also include all the DLCs and will cover Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

According to Valve, “Half-Life: Alyx is set before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements. The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible.”

Half-Life: Alyx is currently set for a launch in March which is also when this current offer by Valve will end, so if you are interested in taking up the company’s offer, then perhaps this could be worth checking out. Head on over to the Steam website for the details.
