You must have heard about the new folding smartphones by Motorola and Samsung (RAZR and Galaxy Z Flip, respectively).

Even though you consider those to be the next big innovations – TCL’s leaked photos of its prototype smartphone (originally shared by CNET) adds more competition to the table.

It looks like the upcoming TCL smartphone might end up offering an expandable display (meaning, you can slide-out the extension of a screen) as shown in the image above.

When compared to the foldable displays, this actually looks interesting and useful. You can easily be able to transform your smartphone into a tablet in no time.

As per the report by CNET, this smartphone was scheduled to be revealed at the MWC – until the event was called off for coronavirus outbreak.

There’s no information on how it works or the specifications for it on paper – however, it seems like a big deal when considering a smartphone that lets you extend the display without the need for a folding mechanism.

Here, the slide-out screen looks better to some but until we have more information on how it works and how it’s better than a foldable screen, we might have to hold on to our personal opinions or guesses.

It is worth noting that this is indeed a concept design for a prototype device that may not even launch. What do you think about it?
