Computers back in the day weren’t particularly well-designed, at least as far as aesthetics were concerned. We suppose in all fairness, the fact that these machines even existed was already pretty special. That being said, it seems that at one point in time, Apple might have toyed with the idea of creating a see-through computer case.

A series of photos uploaded to Twitter shows off what is allegedly a prototype of the Macintosh Classic computer from way, way back in the day where it sports a clear casing. Now, given that this is a prototype, it is possible that Apple did not bother with the case of the computer and just created one to house the components so that they could test it out, but we have to say that it looks pretty cool.

Apple did eventually go on to release the iMac G3 which came in a variety of bright colors and a semi-transparent casing, so maybe this prototype helped set the precedent. Also, back then, gadgets with see-through housings were also pretty popular. We’re sure that some of you might recall that Nintendo also eventually released a Game Boy with a transparent housing.

That being said, it is interesting to see how far along computer designs have come, not just externally, but internally as well. Apple has prided itself on creating products that don’t just look great on the outside, but their internal components are also usually well thought out.
