In-Display Touch ID Might Only Arrive In 2022’s iPhone

There is no denying the effectiveness of Apple’s Face ID system, but there is a certain convenience with Touch ID that makes it better to use in some situations. We have been hearing that Apple could be working on a solution, but if analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest report is accurate, we might have to wait until next year.

This is because according to Kuo, the in-display Touch ID system will only arrive in 2022’s models, and even then, not all the models in the lineup might have it. According to Kuo, Apple will launch four iPhone models in 2022 which will consist of two 6.1-inch models and two 6.7-inch models.

However, he says that for the lower-end 6.7-inch model, it might not come with certain features, one of which is in-display Touch ID which will help to keep costs down. His report also confirms that the iPhone mini series will be killed off starting next year, so it looks like the iPhone 13 mini could be the last of its kind.

That being said, we’re not sure why Apple is taking this long. Other handset makers have long introduced in-display fingerprint sensors in their phones, so we’re not sure what’s holding Apple back. Perhaps they might be looking to do something more with the tech than just use it for fingerprints, but either way, it seems that it probably won’t arrive this year.
