Sonos Might Be interested In Developing Their Own Voice Assistant

Smart speakers like those made by Apple, Amazon, and Google all have digital assistants built into them. Sonos’ speakers on the other hand rely on other voice assistants from the likes of Amazon or Google, but it seems that the company could be toying with the idea of maybe making their own voice assistant.

This is according to a report from VoiceBot.ai who spotted a survey that Sonos had sent out to its customers. In a post on Reddit by u/EdmundFitzgerald29 who shared a screenshot of the email, the company is thinking of creating a digital assistant that can be triggered by “Hey Sonos” and perform similar functions as other digital assistants.

The post reads, “Sonos sent a survey around a few weeks ago asking for feedback on a voice assistant they’re building/thinking about. Would imagine the product is somewhat close to being ready. IIRC the trigger they were thinking about was “Hey Sonos” and they planned for it to manage speaker playback (grouping, volume, etc) as well as find music to play.”

That being said, do keep in mind that this is a survey and doesn’t necessarily indicate that such a feature is being developed. It is possible that Sonos could be entertaining the idea, but whether or not it becomes an actual feature remains to be seen.
