When we think of chipsets that you might find in the most popular and most powerful smartphones, we see them from companies like Apple who use their own custom A-series chipsets in the iPhone. Samsung’s Exynos series has also fared pretty well, and let’s not forget Qualcomm whose Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is powering 2022’s flagship phones.

While MediaTek makes their own chipsets, you typically find their products in lower and mid-range devices, but it seems that MediaTek is about to give all the other companies a run for their money with the Dimensity 9000 chipset.

According to the leaked benchmarks of the chipset, it appears that the Dimensity 9000 scored 1,309 for single-core tests, and 4,546 in multi-core tests on Geekbench. For context, this is better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the Galaxy S22 Ultra which scored 1,224 and 3,445 respectively, and it also comes close to Apple’s A15 Bionic which scored 1,733 and 4,751 respectively.

This should have some of these companies worried, especially since it has been suggested that the Dimensity 9000 will be used in ~$500 phones, meaning that these mid-range devices will not only offer more power than phones like the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but will be priced at half that amount.

That being said, keep in mind that benchmarks only really tell one part of the story and that other than performance and price, there are other factors involved that go into the decision making process when choosing a new smartphone.
