At MWC 2026, Lenovo announced the latest iterations of its core professional laptop lineup: the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 and the ThinkPad T16 Gen 5. These new models introduce significant hardware updates, including the integration of Intel “Panther Lake” or AMD “Gorgon Point” processors.

Beyond raw performance, the primary focus for this generation is a substantial leap in user-driven repairability and modular design.

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 and T16 Gen 5 have achieved a “10 out of 10” repairability score from iFixit. This rating is driven by several innovative design choices intended to extend the device’s lifespan and simplify maintenance for IT departments and consumers alike.

A standout feature is the new tool-less battery removal system. Unlike previous models that required a screwdriver to access internal power cells, the new battery can be removed by simply pressing two release buttons and clicking it out of place.

Furthermore, the devices feature modular USB-C charging ports. Because these ports are high-wear components, making them modular allows users to replace a damaged port without needing to swap the entire motherboard.

Lenovo has also integrated QR codes throughout the internal chassis. When scanned, these codes will link directly to Lenovo’s support site, providing users with step-by-step instructional videos and documentation for replacing specific parts. Other user-replaceable components include:

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 sees a significant increase in power capacity, jumping to a 75 Wh battery from the 57 Wh maximum found in the previous generation. The larger T16 Gen 5 also adopts the 75 Wh battery, though this is a slight decrease from the 86 Wh option available in its predecessor.

Despite the internal redesign, Lenovo has maintained a robust selection of legacy ports to satisfy professional requirements. Both models include:

• Two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) connectors.

• Two USB-A ports.

• An HDMI port and an RJ45 Ethernet jack.

While display options largely carry over from the previous year, the T16 Gen 5 introduces a new 2.8K OLED panel option for users requiring high color accuracy and contrast.

Pricing and Market Availability

The new ThinkPad T series models are scheduled for release in April 2026. In the European market, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 will start at €1,400 (~$1,515), while the ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 will begin at €1,500 (~$1,623).
