Insta360 has released a significant firmware and software update for the Flow 2 and Flow 2 Pro smartphone gimbals. This update focuses on expanding hardware compatibility for Android users, improving panoramic photography speed, and deepening integration with the Apple ecosystem.

The most notable improvement addresses a long-standing limitation for Android users: restricted access to secondary lenses. Previously, many third-party gimbal apps were limited to the smartphone’s primary camera. The latest Insta360 app update now enables native multi-lens support for compatible flagship devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Google (Pixel), vivo, and OPPO. This allows users to switch between wide-angle, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses directly through the gimbal interface, capturing footage at the sensor’s full resolution without digital cropping or quality degradation.

Insta360 Flow 2

The update introduces Panoramic Photo 2.0, which optimizes the gimbal’s movement to capture 360-degree spherical images in approximately 20 seconds. This reduces the previous capture time by half. These panoramas can be exported as standard flat images or shared via interactive links on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, allowing viewers to tilt and explore the environment.

For iOS users, the update adds a Dual View mode. This feature allows for simultaneous recording using the front and rear cameras, or two different rear lenses. The system generates three independent clips from a single session, combining multi-angle storytelling with the gimbal’s AI-powered subject tracking.

Apple Watch Control

Apple Watch users now have access to a dedicated control interface. By using the watch’s Digital Crown, users can adjust the zoom remotely. The watch interface also supports starting or stopping recordings, switching between gimbal modes, and setting timers. This is particularly beneficial for solo creators who need to manage their shots from a distance.

While the update is currently available via the Insta360 app, the company notes that specific feature availability may vary depending on the smartphone model. This software-driven enhancement extends the lifecycle of the Flow 2 series by providing high-end features to existing hardware.
