Cortana is a digital assistant similar to Siri in iPhone. While you need to say “Hey Siri” to summon the digital assistant on your iphone, you need to enable cortana on your Windows machine and then say “Hey Cortana” to make it work. Here’s how to make Cortana always listen for your commands.

Whether you have a desktop or a laptop – cortana will surely make things easier. However, do note that you cannot do everything with the help of a digital assistant i.e it does not give you the full control over the system via voice commands. For example, now Cortana isn’t able to recognize songs.

In order to utilize the assistant, you need to enable the ability for Cortana to respond when you say – “Hey, Cortana!

Note: This guide refers to Windows 10 Pro Edition (Version: 1709, Build: 16299.125). If you’re using an earlier build or an insider build, you might find the options different.

How To Enable Cortana To Respond When You Say “Hey Cortana!”

1. Make sure that you can see the cortana assistant icon on your taskbar. If you do not observe that, simply right-click on your task bar and then hover on the “Cortana” option as shown in the image below. You should then click on – “Show Cortana icon” – if it was hidden.

2. If you already have the cortana icon on your taskbar, simply click on it as shown in the image below.

3. Now, refer to the image above and click on the settings icon. Once you do that, it will open up the “Cortana settings” window.

4. Just toggle the option you want to enable. Here, you need to enable – “Let cortana respond to Hey Cortana“. As per your preference, you may choose to toggle the rest of the options. It’s done. You have successfully enabled cortana to listen to your voice commands when needed.
