Anti-glossy surface folks get DIY solution

Many new gadgets these days come with a glossy cover, where notebooks, netbooks, portable media players and even smartphones are not exempt. Glossy surfaces might be nice to look at in the showroom, but they’re bona fide candidates for a fingerprint magnet to say the least. Check out how you can turn a glossy surfaced-device into one that has a nice matte exterior – which is smudge resistant to boot. You will need an ultra-fine 000# grade steel wool or a scour pad similar to the green 3M Scotch Brite pads if you’re going to get started on this project. Here’s how you’re supposed to do it – utilize the dry scour pad and work it in wide circles over the glossy part of the case, resulting in a swirling brushed-steel effect. A minute of light buffing with a very slightly damp paper towel can be used to wipe the dust away. Don’t fret if the case looks temporarily glossy again, as it will take a few moments for it to dry, resulting in a matte finish. Depending on your strength and preference, you can repeat the process as many times until you are satisfied. We don’t think this is something most people would try though, considering how they prefer to maintain that shiny look.
