IBM and ARM partnership for new mobile chipsets

IBM and ARM have announced that they will be partnering on advanced semiconductor technologies that are designed to power the next generation of mobile gadgets. The goal of the partnership is to create 14nm chips that will be suitable for better power management, longer battery life and also better multimedia support, feats that we’d definitely welcome in any device.

While this isn’t the first time that IBM and ARM have worked together, this initiative is on a much larger scale. In the latest deal, ARM will power the processor IP and it will be tuned to IBM’s manufacturing processes. There wasn’t any mention of where the results of this partnership will be used, but we’re assuming that it’ll appear in devices sometime in the near future.
