A group of researchers from Brazil managed to come up with a new form of plant fiber-based plastic which is touted to be stronger, lighter, and more eco-friendly than plastics that are in use at the moment. According to team leader Alcides Leão, he claims that the so-called nano-cellulose fibers can be just about as stiff as Kevlar, although it is different from many in widespread use simply because the source material like pineapple and banana is wholly renewable – or rather, green, which is nigh important in this day and age. The same researchers also claim that current production efforts will be centered around the manufacture of automotive plastics, although future development might just oust steel and aluminum. Hopefully a whole lot of good will come out of this for the benefit of mankind.
