OWLE Bubo turns your iPhone into a decent handheld camera

OWLE Bubo

The iPhone already has a pretty good camera to start with, but sometimes it just isn’t enough. The phone’s unwieldy shape makes it a bit hard to keep a steady focus on your subject, and the fact that the buttons to control the device are onscreen, it sometimes leads to accidental presses especially if you have large hands and fingers. The folks over at OWLE have come up with a solution to the problem. Called the Bubo, this specially carved billet aluminum case for the iPhone adds handgrips to the side of the phone for increased stability, multiple tripod mounting points, a sensitive microphone and a wide angle lens. If you need access to the headphones to listen to what you’re recording, the Bubo doesn’t obstruct the port. With a 0.45x wide-angle/macro combination lens – the iPhone’s field of view is doubled, and has increased contrast and details. If you’re not keen on using the provided lens, you can even replace it with any third party lens that fit the case (37mm). Even 49mm filters are welcome by the Bubo. The external mic makes accidentally blocking the mic on the phone a problem of the past. The OWLE Bubo is on sale now for $169 (iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G) and $159 (iPhone 3GS).
