We all know that Sony Ericsson’s range of Android-powered Xperia smartphones have fallen behind the rest of the Android legion when it comes to having their operating system versions updated, and it does seem to be a malaise that Sony Ericsson cannot shake off. Perhaps this is why Sony Ericsson has to look into their strategy in order to avoid an impending and potentially disastrous collapse. While the Android 2.3.3 update has already started to appear in select regions, Italian users will only get theirs next month.

Not only that, we have word that the Android 2.3.4 update will arrive on new Xperia handsets this coming October. There is no confirmation on this just yet, but according to HDBlog.it, this information is straight from the horse’s mouth – Sony Ericsson Italy in this case. Android 2.3.4 will see video chat in Google Talk introduced in addition to Google Maps 5.1 with 3D (when Google Maps 5.5 has already been announced), Voice Search 2.1.1 with Voice Actions and personalized voice search.

What do you think – any update is better than no update?
