When it comes to dealing with robots, they do help out in the medical industry as budding doctors learn the tricks of their trade by “operating” on such robots – so it makes perfect sense to make it as realistic as possible. Hanako 2 is a Japanese dental patient simulator that allows dentists to practice “real-life” procedures on her before they start drilling actual human patients’ teeth. What does Hanako 2 bring to the table? Well, “she” is able to sneeze, roll with her eyes and blink, open and close her mouth, cough and even simulate a gag reflex – making her look and function all the more realistic.

Hanako 2 is also said to come with better speech recognition than before, letting her discuss her condition (without any bad breath, we bet) with the dentist. Since the manufacturer of Hanako 2 also churns out “love dolls”, they are able to change Hanako’s skin from PVC to silicone, while forming the tongue and cheek linings in one piece. To see Hanako 2 in action, you can check out the video right after the jump.
