If the sound of your external hard drive really bothers you, or perhaps you were hoping to get your hands on a set of new external hard drives with USB 3.0 support, then Logitec’s latest addition to their “Master Series of Japan” external hard drives might be something worth checking out.

The series is named LHD-PBJU3W and it is available in Japan starting from today, although no word on whether those of us in the States will be seeing it any time soon. The external hard drive comes in three flavors – 500GB, 750GB and 1TB, with the 1TB only becoming available some time towards the end of the month. I guess the selling point for these external hard drives, other than the fact that it appears to be rather sleek, is that it will come with USB 3.0 support for faster transfer speeds (naturally it will also come with support for USB 2.0) and also with Logitec claiming that these external hard drives are quiet, supposedly producing audio levels of only 18dB during operation. Since we can’t measure it for ourselves, we’ll have to take Logitec’s word for it.

The drives measure in at 80 x 124 x 14 mm and weigh in at 150 grams each. The 500GB model will be selling for $98 and the 750GB will be going for $117. No word on the pricing of the 1TB model.
