AT&T’s 4G LTE network now live in Chicago

AT&T logoWhile it hasn’t been officially announced yet, it looks like the AT&T 4G LTE network in the Chicago area has went live. It is uncertain if the network went live for testing purposes, or it’s a soft launch for the carrier to test the waters, but whatever the reason is, the folks over at BGR got their hands on some AT&T 4G LTE modems and ran some speed tests to check out the network.

Using an AT&T Elevate 4G LTE mobile hotspot, they tested an iPhone 4 and a MacBook yielding less than fantastic results. Seeing how the network hasn’t been officially launched, perhaps AT&T will be tweaking the network before they finally do. According to their speed tests, downloads reached a max speed of 13Mbps and uploads a little over 2Mbps, not too impressive for a 4G LTE network, though they did report that they never saw more than 3 bars of service during the tests. Any of you in Chicago with access to AT&T’s 4G LTE modem care to test out the service? Let us know if you do.
