Popular torrent site Demonoid shut down as gift to the United States

Demonoid fans were quite worried last week when their site was offline, but were relieved to find out that it was just a large DDoS attack. Fans will be even more upset when they hear that the site has been shut down permanently today by Ukrainian authorities.

ColoCall, the largest data center in Ukraine and Demonoid’s home, was forced to shut down the site after investigators arrived mid last week and forced them to shut it down according to TorrentFreak: “Investigators have copied all the information from the servers Demonoid and sealed them, Some equipment was not seized, but now it does not work, and we were forced to terminate the agreement with the site.”

Even though ColoCall blocks all Ukrainian IP addresses to adhere to the country’s copyright laws, authorities got involved most likely to please the United States since Deputy Prime Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky of Ukraine is visiting the US and plans on talking about copyright infringement.

Fans of the torrent site may have one string of hope to hang onto as the admin of the site has yet to be incarcerated according to ColoCall and the management of the site is located in Mexico. We’ll keep you updated on the situation as more info becomes available. Let us know what you think of the takedown of Demonoid in the comments section below.
