Boy, that did not take too long at all – just a few hours after it was speculated that Google Maps for iOS will finally be released, here we are with the skinny from the folks over at Google themselves. From today, Google Maps is available on a worldwide basis at the Apple App Store. It has been specially designed from the ground up so that you do not end up getting lost compared to Apple Maps, boasting the comprehensiveness and accuracy of Google Maps while packaged in an interface which makes finding your way around faster and easier than before.

Google Maps for iOS will show more map on screen, coming in an intuitive experience. It is sharper looking, and will be vector-based map, offering quicker load times and smooth tilting and rotating of 2D and 3D views. With over 80 million businesses and points of interest, you know that you won’t get lost with Google Maps – or at least, it is nearly impossible to. Not only that, there is the much missed voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation, live traffic conditions, and information for over one million public transit stops.

The new Google Maps app for iOS will be compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch (4th gen) that run on iOS 5.1 and higher, and will come in 29 languages, including Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. [Press Release]
