Samsung And LG Settles Patent Dispute Through Peace Talk, Not War

In the book entitled “The Art of War,” Chinese military strategist, Sun Tzu, said that the supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting, and that supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting. South Korean chaebols LG and Samsung seems to be learning some of its business strategies from the good book. According to Yonhap News, executives from both companies met on Monday this week to resolve a patent dispute involving their display business.

Apparently the two companies are entangled in a patent suit, fueled by their own quest for market leadership, particularly in the display business. Samsung and LG are reportedly involved in at least four litigations. Samsung has opted to resolve the issue one by one, while LG suggested that more peace talks will be held. What’s interesting here is that, according to the news agency, the two technology giants resolved the issue through a dialogue, and not in court. If only patent cases, such as the Apple versus Samsung wars, would end up like this, the world could have been much better.
