Microsoft Facing SEC And DOJ Probe Over Foreign Bribery

It seems like Microsoft has landed itself in some hot waters. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Redmond based company is under investigation by the Securities and Exchanges Commission as well as the Department of Justice over claims that it has taken part in bribery in foreign countries, which include China. As of now the investigation is thought to be in its initial stages.

Citing people familiar with the matter, it is being reported that Microsoft allegedly bribed government officials in foreign countries in order to receive software contracts. The company is also being probed for the relationship it has with certain resellers and consultants in Italy and Romania. Federal investigators from both of these departments are investigation claims made by an ex employee of Microsoft based in China. These allegations are said to be three years old and reportedly Microsoft has already investigated them internally. It must be kept mind that this is just an investigation as of now, Microsoft has not been accused by the government of actually doing anything wrong. As the saying goes, innocent until proven guilty. Microsoft is yet to officially comment on this investigation.
