Amazon’s 2014 Smartphone Rumored To Feature 3D Gestures And Eye Tracking

kindlefireThere have been rumors that Amazon is planning to launch a smartphone of their own come 2014 and according to a recent report by Apple Insider, they claim that their sources have informed them of some of the upcoming features of the phone. This includes advanced 3D gestures and eye-tracking input. This seems to be in line with earlier rumors suggesting that Amazon’s smartphone would utilize 3D in some way. Amazon has been rumored to have partnered with three key compact camera module makers that will help enable these features in their phone.

The phone is said to pack 6 camera modules: 4 VGA cameras placed at the corners of the phone, while the remaining two will be a 13MP rear-facing camera, while the front-facing camera is said to be a 12MP one. Additional information about the device includes a 4.7” touchscreen display and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor on board. Assuming that the information is accurate, Amazon’s take on the smartphone would definitely be a unique one and will help differentiate itself from the pack. However given that chances are Amazon will most likely use the same operating system found on their Kindle Fire tablets, that alone would be differentiation enough. Will this 3D gestures and eye tracking prove to be a key selling point, or will be end up being a novelty? What do you guys think?
