gold_htc_one_1_1Gold finishes for smartphones seem to be the in thing these days. It was only a few years ago when many went crazy over a white finish, a trend started when Apple decided to give their iPhone 3GS a white paint job over the more sombre black. The iPhone 5s has seen the gold treatment, with Samsung chiming in with a gold Galaxy S4, and now it looks like HTC will be hopping aboard the gold-plated bandwagon as well with a special edition gold HTC One handset. It should be noted that this is not an official release by HTC, but rather an option offered by Goldgenie, the same company responsible for the gold-plated iPhone 5s.

This 18-carat gold version of the HTC One was created to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the MOBO awards, which for those unfamiliar, is a British awards ceremony that celebrates Music of Black Origin, hence “MOBO”. The handset is priced at an eye-watering £1579.17 which is about $2,538.07 when converted. However for those who do purchase it, you will not only be getting the handset itself, but it will come in a luxury cherry oak finished box, Beats Audio earphones, a dock connector to USB cable, a USB power adapter, and a Clear-Coat full body protection “installed by master craftsmen at Goldgenie”. Don’t suppose there are any takers, are there?
