There is no shortage of rumors about the Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor, they actually popped up late last year when speculation about the upcoming flagship started to heat up. Today the folks at Sammobile have “confirmed” that Samsung’s new smartphone really will have the fingerprint sensor and that contrary to popular belief, it will actually be housed underneath the home button as opposed to the display. Previous rumors suggested that the Galaxy S5 display itself could be capable of recognizing fingerprints, but that doesn’t seem to be happening, at least as far as this scribe is concerned.

Claiming to have received “a plethora of information” from insides, the site claims that Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor will work in a swipe manner. Meaning that users will have to swipe the entire pad of their finger on the home button from base to tip slowly in order to gain access to the device. Its also said that moisture may interfere with the reading process, so its best to wipe your fingers first before trying to unlock the device. Apparently the display will show a real time image of the fingerprint scan as the user swipes their finger. Users will reportedly be able to configure as many as eight fingerprints and even single them to different tasks, such as app shortcuts. However, one fingerprint must be kept aside to be used exclusively for unlocking the device. It is also said that the Galaxy S5 will come with a new Personal Folder and Private Mode in which users can keep their apps, widgets and content away from prying eyes. To gain access to them, users will have to swipe their fingers on the home button.

Samsung hasn’t commented on the report, and it can’t be expected to, given the fact that the official announcement isn’t that far off. All signs point to an unveiling at Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona later this month, we’ll be on ground to bring you the latest updates.
