Skype For Outlook.com Goes Global

Skype

Last year a preview version of Skype integration into Outlook.com was rolled out to users in select markets. What it allows users to do is that they can tap into Skype without actually having to leave their Outlook inbox, this eliminates the need for launching the standalone Skype app when you need to make a call, the magic happens within the inbox itself. Today the Skype team announced that Skype for Outlook.com is now being rolled out to all users across the globe, and that some improvements have also been made to further enhance the user experience.

Setting up Skype in Outlook.com isn’t too hard. Users first have to download and install a plugin to which they link their Skype account to. Once that is done, they have access to the entire friends list within the inbox, and from there they can make video calls as well as send instant messages. The latest version of the plugin also brings Mac support for Safari, so users have even more ways to connect to people.

The version being rolled out today also supports HD video calling for PC users, provided that both participants have HD displays, webcams and broadband internet. Last but not the least, the team has fixed a few bugs to ensure that users don’t face any issues. The Skype for Outlook.com plugin is a free download.
