Tweets Start To Disappear, Twitter Aware Of It

galaxy-s5-oscarsNow this is something that even the great David Copperfield is unable to pull off – to make tweets disappear, including the most retweeted tweet of all-time. Twitter users began to ask themselves as of late this afternoon concerning the mysteriously disappearing tweets. Among the tweets that have “fallen” to such a phenomenon, they include actor Cory Monteith’s last tweet before his death, as well as Ellen DeGeneres’ viral selfie that actually racked up over 3.4 million retweets at one point.

A Justin Bieber fan did manage to frame up the tweet in a physical format, saying, “At least I got the tweet framed before it got deleted.” As for editors at different media companies, they also did make mention of such a strange phenomenon. Twitter claims that they are well aware of the situation, and are “currently researching a bug that has caused some tweets to not be displayed.”

Isn’t it ironic that Twitter’s hiccups happened as Facebook made an announcement concerning its $2 billion purchase of virtual tech firm Oculus, with Instagram touting that it has over 200 million monthly active users. Perhaps it is just the service gaining a level of self awareness, choking up at the kind of competition it will face in the near future.
