Just yesterday Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 8.1. It will be available for all supported devices in summer, though its quite possible that the Windows Phone 8.1 update might be released on April 14th. Before the update is rolled out Microsoft releases it to developers. On April 14th the company is expected to release Windows Phone 8.1 to developers, but the thing is, anyone with a Windows Phone 8 device will be able to install it.

Microsoft didn’t give an official date about Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview release yesterday, two separate news publications are confirming that the release has been penciled in for April 14th. The Verge hears that this is the plan, but the possibility exists that the date may slip a bit further.

The developer preview program lets Windows Phone owners bypass carriers and get the latest update on their devices. Granted that there might be a few bugs to fix, but at least its better than waiting around till summer to get your hands on the latest and greatest Windows Phone update.

As previously mentioned, the program has been created for developers, but Microsoft really doesn’t place any restrictions on non-developers. So even if you have zero app development skills you will be able to download and install Windows Phone 8.1 on April 14th nonetheless.
