Taiwan based HTC is believed to have a couple of HTC One M8 variants up its sleeve. There has been a steady stream of rumors for those variants, one of which is said to be the HTC M8 Ace. Rumor has it that this is the company’s “Galaxy S5 killer.” Its supposed to offer the same specifications in a similar plastic build which would keep costs down and give HTC an opportunity to compete with Samsung’s flagship on price. A new rumor originating from Taiwan claims that the HTC M8 Ace release date is June 3rd.

It is also claimed that at first HTC is going to release this smartphone in China and there is hope that it will become available in Taiwan by the end of next month. HTC M8 Ace is expected to cost CNY3,000 in China which roughly equals to $480. At this price it will most certainly undercut the Galaxy S5 on price. In the U.S. an unlocked Galaxy S5 costs upwards of $600.

Unlike the company’s all metal body touting HTC One M8 this smartphone is believed to be made out of plastic. However it is expected to come with a 5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quadcore processor, 13 megapixel rear camera and Android 4.4 KitKat. On paper the specifications match that of the Galaxy S5, but it can’t really be said for sure if it gives Samsung’s flagship a run for its money until we can test out how it performs.

No word as yet on when this variant will make its way to other markets like North America and Europe.
