avenger-droneWhile drones might not be welcome everywhere for obvious reasons, there is a practical aspect to them serving in the military. Case in point, the Avenger drone that was spotted over the Mojave desert recently sports a distinctive golden glass that helps shield its optics systems, where it was undergoing tests in the Mojave Desert that was conducted by General Atomics.

Someone out there managed to be in the right place and at the right time, captured a shot of one of the rarer and more secretive drone programmes around, making me wonder whether this is the proverbial ‘ghost cat’ or snow leopard for the photographer. This is not the first time that the Avenger was tested, since it had already undergone testing in Afghanistan, and it can be easily identified thanks to its highly distinctive ‘goldeneye’ glass that will help protect its delicate sensing optics system.

The Avenger is capable of cruising at 400mph, in addition to flying up to 60,000 feet depending on the configuration set beforehand, with the ability to remain airborne for a whopping 18 hours, now how about that? Apart from that, the Avenger has the ability to carry approximately 3,500 lbs of smart bombs and requires only a single pilot to control it.
