blackberry-10-pbs-univision-viacom1Earlier we had announced that BlackBerry will be teaming up with Amazon to allow Amazon’s Appstore to be installed on BlackBerry 10.3 devices, but it looks like with that good news, BlackBerry has decided to throw in some bad news as well. According to an announcement on BlackBerry’s blog, they have revealed that they will be shutting down its BlackBerry World Music and Video services.

The shutdown of the music and video service will come into effect on the 21st of July, but for those who have previously bought and downloaded content, fret not because your purchases and downloads will still be available after the 21st of July via MyWorld. According to BlackBerry, they believe that by opening their doors to Amazon’s Appstore, it will allow users more access to third-party music/video services.

We suppose that’s fair, and perhaps to help celebrate its new partnership and/or to make up for the shuttering of its services, BlackBerry has also teased that there will be a special Amazon Appstore offering coming soon, so we guess we’ll just have to wait for an announcement, so do check back with us at a later date for the details. In the meantime, will you miss BlackBerry World Music and Videos?
