When Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 8.1 and showed off that it came with a virtual personal assistant called Cortana many asked exactly when this feature would be rolled out to users in the U.S. It was said back then that Cortana would be first expanded to the UK and China. That has been done but it appears that users in the UK aren’t too happy about the voice Cortana uses.  A Microsoft team member revealed that they’re aware of this and are working to make it better.

In response to a complaint on Twitter which said that Cortana was using an emotionless tone a Cortana team member over at Microsoft, Sandeep Paruchuri, confirmed that the team is aware of this and that they “are working on something.”

This sentiment appears to be common among UK residents who downloaded the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1. Cortana’s voice appears to be more robotic than human which is why users aren’t really falling head over heels for it in the kingdom. While confirming that they are working on something, Google’s Paruchuri did mention that they will reveal more details about this very soon.

Some have even debated if Microsoft should have just gone with Jen Taylor-powered Cortana in the UK since it appears to be doing much better in the U.S. For now though that doesn’t appear to be an option for the company, it will continue work to improve Cortana sound more human and less robot.
