Now here is a robot that will delight itself (figuratively speaking, since robots are not sentient creatures with feelings and emotions) in transforming your home as it can turn into different kinds of furniture. For those who have had some poor experiences when it comes to assembling furniture, perhaps the future might be a whole lot different if the Roombot’s technology is extrapolated into the future – by delivering a furniture that can self-assemble itself. I suppose that would be IKEA’s worst nightmare, unless IKEA happens to be the one who owns such a patent.

The whole idea of the Roombot is to assist the disabled and the elderly, and researchers from the Biorobotics Laboratory at Switzerland’s École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne claim that this particular Roombot could very well be the “future of furniture.” A recent grant might just be the tipping point to push this particular research project over the edge so that it becomes realit.

What else can be said about the Roombot? Well, for starters, it is capable of clawing its way to scale walls, or to move around the other furniture that lies in your home. Sounds like a dream device to own, but what of its maintenance? Afer all, anything with moving parts do need to be checked up upon from time to time.
