Apple’s Mac Worldwide Market Share Sees An Increase

While the Windows operating system might be the dominant operating system at the moment, this is thanks to the various OEMs that have created a multitude of Windows computers and laptops, but what if we were to break it down company by company? How would Apple fare? Well according to the latest numbers by the IDC, it looks like Apple’s shipments have been on the rise.

According to the new figures released by the IDC for the third quarter of calendar 2014, it seems that Apple’s market share around the world is now at 6.3%, versus 5.7% from the same time last year. Apple has also seen an increase in shipments from 4,577 to 4,982, which ultimately puts the Cupertino company in the top 5 global PC vendors.

In fact this is actually the first time that Apple has made it into the top 5 list (worlwide) and occupy ASUS’ spot. It seems that Apple’s refresh of the Mac and MacBook lineup are part of the reason why Apple has managed to clinch the fifth place in the list, like the MacBook Air lineup which now starts at a more affordable $899, thus making it a value for money purchase.

As for the other OEMs on the list, Lenovo is still sitting the top position at 20% market share, although HP is not far behind at 18.8% in second place. Coming in third is Dell at 13.3%, and Acer at 8.4%. At the rate this is going, we wouldn’t be surprised if one day Apple would be able to overtake Acer as well.
