It has been a couple of years since Apple discontinued the 12-inch MacBook laptop. It is unclear if the device will ever make a return, but a recent survey seems to suggest that maybe, just maybe, Apple could be thinking of revisiting the form factor.

According to the survey, Apple is asking current owners of the 12-inch MacBook their opinion on the size, features, and things that they would change about it. Perhaps Apple wants to know if this is a form factor that customers like enough for them to justify bringing it back to the market. Alternatively, it could be a post-mortem on the now-discontinued laptop and Apple wants to see where they might have gone wrong.

That being said, we have to admit that Apple’s current lineup actually makes a lot more sense and is less confusing. Right now the laptop lineup consists of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, and we reckon that’s good enough. A 12-inch MacBook does sit at kind of an odd place and a position that the MacBook Air could easily fill.

Apple is rumored to be working on a refresh of the MacBook Pro where it could come in new 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. It could also mean that Apple could discontinue the 13-inch model, so maybe a 12-inch model could be a good size for those who might prefer something smaller. Either way, this is just speculation, so maybe don’t read too much into it for now.
