Thanks to calculators, solving mathematical equations both complicated and simple is a piece of cake. However sometimes solving equations can take a while as you might have to enter long equations and their symbols into the calculator, and mistyping a symbol or missing a bracket could result in the wrong answer.

Well that’s what apps such as PhotoMath are for. The app has been designed to allow users to solve mathematical equations by pointing their phone’s camera at the equation and the app will solve it for you. In fact the app will also be able to break down the steps it took to solve the equation if you’re interested in the process rather than the answer.

As it stands the app is currently available on iOS and Windows Phone and is expected to make its way onto Android devices next year. While we expect that the app is more than capable of solving equations, we reckon that it should probably be used to double check your work as opposed to relying solely on it for answers.

We also doubt that teachers and lecturers will be too pleased with the app, especially with the ubiquitous nature of smartphones these days, but if you want an app that will help you solve equations, both long and short in seconds, without much effort on your part, then PhotoMath might be an app worth checking out.
