apple_patent_video_goggleCould virtual reality be the next big thing in technology? The Oculus Rift has managed to garner a lot of attention, so much so to the point where Facebook felt compelled to snap up the company for themselves. Sony is also working on a virtual reality headset of their own, and Samsung has the Gear VR.

Heck, even Google attempted virtual reality with Cardboard, so who’s next? Apple? Well in the past there have been hints at Apple’s interest in the technology thanks to patent filings, but a recent job listing on Apple’s website (via 9to5Mac), it looks like Apple’s interest in the technology is still just as present as ever.

According to the job listing, Apple is seeking a software engineer to help with the creation of UI and applications for “next generation software experiences”. The job description also reads, “This engineer will create high performance apps that integrate with Virtual Reality systems for prototyping and user testing.”

Of course what exactly becomes of this remains to be seen. After all Apple could simply be experimenting in their R&D labs, and not all their efforts might necessarily translate into a finished product, but it’s interesting to see Apple try, but what say you? Would you be interested in an Apple-made virtual reality system?
