gba4iosGiven that Nintendo has refused to release any of their games on mobile devices, it is no surprise that developers have taken to creating emulators for smartphones and tablets that will allow gamers to play some classic Nintendo games on the go. Naturally this did not sit well with companies like Apple who has since taken down emulators like GBA4iOS.

In fact with iOS 8.1, many had expected Apple to finally be able to kill off emulators for good. Well the good news is that they haven’t. According to GBA4iOS’ developer Riley Testut, he has recently announced that the latest version of the app is available for download and that not only will it work with iOS 8.1, but it will not require the user to have a jailbroken device either.

“Hey guys, I know you’ve waited a (really) long time for this, but GBA4iOS 2.1 is finally here! We’ll be releasing the final version to everyone in the near future, but we’ve decided that this beta is stable enough to let you all download it before everyone else, as thanks for sticking with us this entire time.”

However this means that you will need to download and install the app from the iEmulators website as opposed to directly from Apple’s iTunes App Store, which in turn could leave you open to risk, but if you want to take that chance, you can go ahead and install it. Tetsut has cautioned that Apple has always found a way how he has managed to install the emulator on non-jailbroken iOS devices which means that the app might not be available for long.

However Tetsut will also be submitting his app to Cydia in the event so that worst comes to worst, you can jailbreak your iOS device in order to keep using the app.
